Enough of this matching madness [I hate red]
 

And have given up. This red cannot be matched due to fading or an act of God [gods] or whatever.

But instead of having the whole car painted by a qualified professional, I only dive in deeper. Now I have a gallon of 1997 Guards red paint. I'm going to do the whole car.

I wouldn't have failed before if the goddamned paint had matched, but after I was done, and everything was glossy, my arms were dead, my feet hert, back hurt, and the paint looked beautiful and flat, the sunlight would hit it just right so I could see a difference.

So chalk all these dozens -- 50 or 60 hours as learning experience at Ivy League cost by the way.

Now I am going to paint the whole bloody car.
Plans are to go badgeless, so that front holes are now filled. And to read and memorize the contents of vintagebus.com

We'll see how this goes.

The two hardest colors to match are red and silver because of fading.

To show you that " I " can be kind, I'm willing to help you with your paint job. I'll supply you with some materials.

I know how you feel . Before I got my 911 I had an Audi I painted myself (dark metallic blue). I did the bonnet 3 times the front half of the car twice and I could never match the colour so I finally did the whole car. It was very frustrating but in the end I was a happy man.

I plan doing my 911 early next year.

Remember to use a sealer on the primed spot areas. There is nothing worse than seeing sinkback developing after a few weeks.

best of luck to you kurt. please keep us posted. this is the exact reason why i am going to wait until i i can afford to repaint my entire car instead of just the bumpers and hood. part of what i do for a living is evaluating color and i can detect the most subtle differences in hue. i'd rather have an all matching low end paint job than two mismatching high end paint jobs.

Hey, Any of you guys have an opinion on which colour you feel is the least easiest to spot a mismatch?

Are all colours the same? Or are different shades of red easier to spot with the eye, as opposed to varying shades of silver?

I just think it's an interesting thought.

The human eye is definitely more sensitive to certain colours, I'm sure an expert could pipe in here with the specifics of lux and lumen etc...
