Need some suspension torque values and ??s

Well, just replaced the front torsion bars and related bushings. What a PITA to remove the old bushings w/o completely removing the A-arms. A bit of inginuity and a mapp torch did the trick, though.

So, I have things back together, but I need some torque values for the bolts at the following locations for an 80SC. Anyone have these handy?

** Bolts on the ends of the front suspension cross bar, which pass through the rear A-arm bushing cover

** The three bolts each side at the front A-arm bushing cover.

** The bolts through the cross member to the steering rack.

Also, I installed turbo tie-rods about 2 months ago and the rubber boots are already starting to split on one of the folds on the tie-rod side. I cannot imagine this is normal. Anyone else experience this?

Thanks much

Regarding the tie-rods, I don't think you are alone. I have heard that not all "kits" out there are created equally, and that some of the after-market (Weltmeister?) ones are inferior to the factory pieces. No Personal experience though.

As for the torque specs., I hope this is what you were after:

A-arm to crossmember: 66ft-lb.

A-arm front body brackets: 35ft-lb.

Crossmember itself: 66ft-lb.

Steering rack to crossmember: 35ft-lb.

Thanks Eric!

Did you get those values from the *Redbook* of specs?
Guess I should break down and buy one.

Guess what, I do have the Veltscheister (Performance Products)
tie-rods. I assume I can purchase an OEM boot to use with it?

Thanks again.

No sweat Brad! Also, the specs. came from the Bently manual. I don't believe the Red Book has any such info. About the boots: If Pelican doesn't carry the OEM ones, I'm sure they wouldn't be that expensive from any dealer parts counter. Good luck!

Brad, probably not worth it but I thought I'd offer.

I just remove my stock tie rod boots and they are still in good shape. You are welcome to them if you want them.

Why, thank you Dr. Ryan. Will those work with the turbo tie-rods? If so, I'd be glad to gather them on the next Big Bear run, assuming it's not the weekend of the SBR AutoX event, and that my wife will let me out of the house with a new baby at home :)

I thought you had different one's than I'm installing. The kit I received from Pelican came w/ new boots and they are very different. You are welcome to them but they wont work w/ Turbo Tie rod unless you ended up w/ a different design.

When's the AutoX?
