Yikes
At the marina we blow-boaters sometimes like to have a little fun and toss a beat up and bent cotter pin on a guys deck right before a big race or vacation cruise...
Today I found this beside the rear driver's wheel on my '69 911. Does anyone recognize this ball? It's too small to be from a wheel bearing or half-shaft. Any ideas? Sure, it's probably from a bicycle hub or something else- BUT if anyone of you think it's from a 2 liter please let me know!

So, somewhere between the heat exchanger and the tail pipe, there is ball bearings in play? Probably from the catalytic converter.

High speed muffler bearing. Lubricate with turn signal hydraulic fluid.

Seriously, do you have a floor jack with a sloppy wheel bearing?

I'm rather surprise with your come back comments (from rather senior poster) as I'm pretty sure we had exchange on other threads so I'm not trolling. I'm no pro but in the last 5 years, I pretty well did everything to the car short of splitting the case (drop engine, change: clutch, fly wheel, brakes, back heated with SSIs, installed a PMO EFI system with Electromotive ECU system and so on). So back in 2011 when I found the bearing in the original heat exchanger, I was almost sh?ting brick but since the engine was running OK so I dismiss it but always wonder where it came from.

ok, seriously, you found this on the ground behind your rear drivers wheel... and you think it fell out of your "did everything to the car short of splitting the case (drop engine, change: clutch, fly wheel, brakes, back heated with SSIs, installed a PMO EFI system with Electromotive ECU system and so on). " and you're not dismissing it????

That looks like a common 6mm bike hub ball bearing to me (at least all my old non-sealed hubs run 6mm balls).
I love the cotter pin trick! |

Could be from a swiveling ratchet. I had mine come off with the spring.

@ Gene. There are no bearings like that in your engine.

OK, well hopefully that solves the problem, I was going to say it could possibly be from a worn out seat slider.
