Help with trailing arm bushings
 

OK, this is probably a dumb problem/question, but we've replaced the bushings on the trailing arms of my 1972 911 where they mount to the the torsion bar tube. The bushings we used are OEM and one (so far) has been properly pressed into the trailing arm. Now, we're having a hard time installing that trailing arm to the car because the bushings seem too wide. When we put the two halves of the other side's bushing together and mate them to the mounting bracket, the bushing also seems too wide (maybe an 8th of an inch). Because it'ss rubber, it can be compressed, but the workshop manual doesn't discuss anything like this. There must be a way to squeeze the bushings while installing the trailing arms into the brackets. What's the trick here? a C clamp? Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance! You just have to jam the trailing arms in there. Kind of a PITA.
Make sure the bushings are pressed into the trailing arm as far as they'll go... mine took some serious force to seat them properly.
