Help: electrical connection

I have had some intermittent electrical contact issues with my 73 Targa's tail lights. As I am going over each ground and bulb contact, what is the best way to clean and protect them? Once the contacts are clean and degreased, is there a conductive grease that can be used? What about dielectric grease? I believe this is best used to protect the contact from further moisture, but I believe it acts as an insulator and not a conductor. How do others handle this??
Thank you.

I have used the dialectric grease, but its a messy black colour so vaseline /petroleum jelly is an alternative. I also bought a pen shaped device that has fibre optic like bristles that can clean the contacts in situ.

I have a pen type cleaner from Radio Shack. A pencil eraser will clean contacts well, then a spray of electrical contact cleaner. The dielectric grease is sold in auto parts stores. I have never seen black, only clear. Sometimes it is necessary to spread the male in at the connectors.
