Driving new ‘88 coupe home - Atlanta to Northeast PA

This post is partially for input/advice/potential support and also to just share a hopefully fun experience. I will be departing Atlanta on Friday afternoon and head north to PA. Since most of the trip will be on Saturday and many p-car facilities will be closed, I am hoping to gather support if help if needed along the way.

I’ll take 85 to Greenville SC and near Charlotte pick up 77. I will go north from there driving just west of Winston Salem. Get on 81 to Roanoke WV, head north to Hagerstown MD, then the home stretch in PA from Harrisburg to NE Penna.

I will be updating this post with pics of the journey.

Willing P-Car Good Samaritans, please PM me with your contact info.

All favors will be returned with extra Good Porsche Mojo and likely beer.

Not sure where in Pa. you'll be heading to, I frequently drive from NE N.Y. to just north of Charlotte and have been to Atlanta several times. After 40 years and 4 plus trips a year I go use this route.

84 - 81 Scranton
81 to Wytheville Va. pick up 77
77 from Wytheville to 85 to Atlanta.

Sometimes I'll run NY87 to 287 to 80 to 81 to 77 to 85
Sometimes NY87 to 287 to 78 to 81 to 77 to 85

The 81 & 77 run seem to have a reasonably low LEO presence and just some congestion in the Harrisburg Pa., a section near James Madison University area in Va.
and 77 near Charlotte. All depends on time of day of course.

Atlanta is another story, just watch for your exit in thar area that has some crazy number of lanes.

If you set foot in Virginia, be aware that reckless driving is defined as doing 80 mph anywhere in the state or 20 mph over the posted speed limit. Possible $2,500 fine for such an infraction and a visit to the clink.

You're up by Erie, correct ("Northeast", PA)?

I did the Blue ridge/skyline as I mentioned before, VA up to H'burg had more volume than I expected.

regrets - I'm 100 miles E of of H'burg.
God speed and enjoy

North of Scranton - 85 - 77 - 81 - Scranton - your home

I never have had an issue with Va. LEOs , I've driven it literally hundreds of times.

Drive conservatively car is new to you. I generally stay within a few tics of the speed limits especially the 60 mph sections, no radar detector plugged in, don't be the fast guy in the left lane by yourself. I always pray for Audis, Beemers and tuner cars they are good rabbits on the road ahead of you.

I always avoid Harrisburg Pa. and Mooresville to Charlotte during the rush hours otherwise minimal traffic.
