Mid-Year headlamp washers?
My '77 US 911S was ordered with headlamp washers. At some point it was converted to the flush mount nozzles. How rare are mid-year Non-Turbo cars with periscope headlamp washers? Should I try to track down a pair of periscopes ($$$) or buy the reproduction ones that are now available?

The NAs are pretty rare with washers, but not unheard of. I've seen a handful. I don't have any numbers for you though. They aren't as rare as leather covered window switches I don't think......
![]() Washers were much more frequently optioned in Europe. Since the originals are likely old and brittle, I would go with repros unless you are set on originality. Apparently the rubber seals are hard to find as well. Someone on RL reverse engineered just the seals and the investment in the negative molds was something in the five digits I think. Even if you find a set for sale, they'll probably be gone by the time you click buy. LOL! Like Fuchs, they fell out of style in the eighties and were swapped for the cool flush ones. Apparently take-off Fuchs used to be $20 when everyone and their brother was getting BBS. I know it's technically a 'superseded' part, but Porsche should really remake them. I have no doubt they have the ability to. Molds are probably somewhere under a tarp. But they could very well have been trashed. Wouldn't be the only neat parts lost to supersession ![]() These look pretty accurate! http://www.rsr.at/rsr/parts/detail/id/48 (no affiliation) Want to know what washers are even rarer? Similar protruding ones for the 924. They make the above look as common as water. They, also, have been superseded. Last edited by FrenchToast; 11-04-2014 at 07:22 PM.. |
