Is your car a factory widebody??? If so, it has some rarity as a model, which you will lose by the modification you are considering.... If not, and it has been "widebodied" in the aftermarket, then cutting the targa bar will likely not make things much worse resale wise.
It does have a real detrimantal effect on stiffness to remove the rollbar and rear glass, in a car that is not very stiff to begin with. Your wide wheels and such will magnify the flexibility of this car, and it will shake, rattle and (well, it probably won't actually roll ).
My advisethen. If it a pretty nice car now, sell it and find a nice early cab if that's what you want...

Tho Fitzpatrick who is on this board has done a widebody targa to cab conversion.

He documented the procedure with pictures HERE

Anyone gone the other way and converted a targa into a coupe? I have an aftermarket widebody targa project and am considering making it a coupe instead. I already have doors and glass so I'd just need the top sheetmetal and some serious patience with my Tig welder.

I had about 12 amateur hours into cutting the targa bar off, installing the top mounts, and fitting the top. I went really slow to make sure I got everything right. Then another 4 hours to do the finish work, ie clean up and paint the welds, install trim, roll bar, etc.

BTW, I have an extra set of original cab pillar mounts, if you're interested.

I thought that the rear fender shapes for the taga were very different than the coupe - in the upper areas. Not true??
