Starting out with my 1978 sc

Hi guys
Bought my 1978sc a while ago, it's my first Porsche and first veteran ever. Been thinking about what to do with it. Have been leaning toward making it original but now I'm not sure. Saw this guy that makes custom Porsches, he said he had a Porsche SC that was raced with (as is mine), he's car was,as mine is, really taken care of drive wise but not the so much the estetic parts. Compared to other Porsches that is😆
So i think I've decided to customize mine, really love the way the 911 1972 front looks like with the incorporated lights, thinking about doing that with a front and rear spoiler and widening the wheelhouse.
So, Will a -72 front side panel fit mine? What would be the best way to go forward from here? Any suggestions about how to make this project not will ruin me😊?
Best regards

Also search the web. Go to GT Racing, TRE and others. Big decisions will include fiberglass or steel front fenders and hood and pre'74 front section or not. All the bits and pieces add up. A slippery slope...good luck.

Congratulations on your purchase! You may just want to enjoy the car for a while and get the sense of it before deciding what to make of it. It sounds like you're describing an rsr backdate; you can see a number of them on the site.

It's your car so do as you please, but SC's have shot up as of late. I dare say it will be much more cost effective to go back to original. As I've stated many times before, reversible, performance improving mods are the way to go.

Your car will thank you in the long run by providing a much more stable value. The market for customized Porsches is a lot smaller than the market for pretty original ones. Just MHO.

Nick

BTW, welcome to the first year club!

Thanks for the input guys! I tend to revise my plan as i go, i think i aborted the plan to backdate my car even tho i like the way they look. Think i will keep it a 911sc but customize it to still be a race look so to say, maybe widen it and then make it abit outlaw inspired i think, what do you more experienced Porsche owners say? will it be bad to do an outlaw inspired car, I mean is it like...ok he re comes another noob don't know what hes doing.

Here's my 78.
Not everyone's cup of tea, but she's my baby.
Recaros replaced seats, rear seat delete with RS carpet set, console delete, lowered, 7 and 9's, stronger bars, turbo tie rods, complete engine rebuild with upgrades, 915 complete rebuild etc etc.

As you can see she's fairly stock looking, but easily reversible to a purists car if need be. Let me assure you however, this car drives nothing like a stock SC.

There are many ways to go. Changing the body is unnecessary though. You've already got those cool rear flares, some bigger wheels and you're ready to go!

Here is the car, I'm leaning towards not changing flares, only front and rear fender change and Aero mirrors(and paint offcourse, not as good as it looks). The thing is its not really original as it is. Interior is not original, niether the paint plus some parts missing due to I guess wanting to making it lighter on the racetrack.

What a beauty! Nice work with the car! Are the wheels powdercoated? Im about to powdercoat mine and like to know what you think.
Rear seat delete and console delete? gotta Google that, feel free to post pictures, have been wanting to do something with the rear seats to...like get rid of them.

911 SC hot rods are great, and look great! They love suspension upgrades, are lighter than the later Carreras (and can use some of their parts as upgrades), and when made even lighter, can be a total blast.

Here's my '78 and the thread highlight the suspension/brake upgrades I've done.

Buy Porsche 911 1965-1989 911 1974-83 Front Spoilers / Bumpers | Design 911

I found this RS look kit, this seems to be with the long hood. Was this an option for 911sc:s 75-89 as it says or is this some aftermarket stuff that wasn't optional back in 1978? This would include converting it to the incorporated front lights, i thought that was pre -74...hopefully I'm wrong.

(Is it ok to link to stuff from outside Pelican parts?)

Thanks! It's just me and that was my first Porsche 911 suspension rebuild. I have a lot of motorcycle experience, and a number of Japanese car projects prior.

Original SC flares with 7/8x16 Fuchs wheels. Rear has 11mm hub centric spacers.

Today for the first time, I discovered what an SCrs was.

Rather than back-date, you should build one of those!

I see the kit. You'd still need to two front fenders. I have a Carrera RS clone, best decision I ever made. You can also look at rennspeed, he's has a lot of fiberglass parts and they're the least expensive I've seen.

Just remember, backdating is a labor of love. All fiberglass parts need lots of fitment and finish work. Here's my rs clone, it's mostly done.

Another piece of art, tnx for sharing I need the inspiration.
I'm thrown between the different alternative from day to day. .. Now I'm back to making it original with a RS look. Thankfully it's a while until I can really start the project because of logistic reasons.
