Heat exchangers not fitting

I have a 1973 2.7 MFI engine with SSI heat exchangers. They fit fine. I recently decided to go back to stock with heat exchangers that include the pre-heat connections for the MFI on the driver's side, so I purchased Dansk "OEM" regular steel heat exchangers.

I tried to bolt them up and I am getting interference of the heater hose connection with the chain box. It's worse on the passenger side. The driver's side I could probably live with by using some "massaging". The passenger side probably needs to come down 1/4-1/2 inch to get enough clearance. I'm not wild about getting out the BFH to fix this on brand new heat exchangers.

Has anybody seen this on Dansks? My engine builder is on vacation so I can't confirm whether anything was done to the exhaust ports. If they were machined down that would move the heat exchangers up relatively, and could cause the problem. But I don't think that's the case. And again, the (original) SSIs fit fine.

Sounds like the sheet metal isn't correct. Also confirm the lower valve covers can be removed w/o interference.

Upload some pics for further input.

Sorry, should have uploaded these in the first post; thanks for the help.

Left side is just touching the boss for the chain cover stud:

The right side has more interference:
