Anodising
Hi
As you see on the picture of the list mounted on doorframe, my lists need re-anodising. Today they are blank, 40 years ago they were black. Is it possible to get back the original black color by re-anoding? Any experiences will be very much appreciated. Thank you. . .

Steen, I'm just finishing this set up for an early Turbo. You have to dismantle and remove all steel from the frames (threaded inserts and vent window buttress), strip the original anodizing, sand out pitting and imperfections, polish to the right gloss level and then have the pieces black anodized. It takes me about 40 hours to do a complete set and then bring them to my anodizer.

Shaun,
Is the the same black anodized for the engine deck grill?

yes and no. Same anodizing but different surface prep in part because grille ribs are a different aluminum alloy than window frames. I'm working on a grille for a proper 73 RS with rally provenance now and will have it done the week after Thanksgiving.

Sean,
I'm about to go the other direction--removing the black paint from my frames. Do you recommend anodizing them in clear after they are done, or just leaving them alone? |

Terry, your car is late enough that Porsche started to use cheap, porous aluminum for their painted frames. When you strip the paint off you will probably find a fairly rough surface with a lot of pitting. That's what I found recently after I:
Stripped off the paint on one set to backdate to clear anodizing. Found that this porous aluminum can't be anodized from an aesthetic viewpoint, it turns cloudy even when polished to a mirror. I ended up polishing again and then using Cerakote clear. Set two, I've stripped off the paint and found the same rough, pitted surface. This set I am sanding to smooth and then doing them in black Cerakote. They will look like the door handles below when done.
