1989 3.2 Central Locking issue - HELP!
My problem is odd, but I feel not is big deal to the minds that know!
95% of the time, when I lock the drivers door, both actuators give a resounding thud and both lights blink telling me all is good from 1989... 5% of the time, when I un-lock the driver door, the passenger door does not un-lock, and a squeal of ECU in the trunk, that sounds a lot like the seatbelt buzzer (removed the seatbelt buzzer years ago - it would go off when driving sometimes possible coalition maybe?) sounds off. I will need to manually disengage the buzz, by manually unlocking the doors to stop it. The light on the button on the center console would then glow soft, and be glowing red hot. Importantly, center console when pressed will lock the doors, but hitting it to unlock doors, will try hard to do it, use to unlock the diver door and never the passengers, nor nether will be opened by hitting the red light. Question is this. 1. Is it the ECU in the trunk? 2. Microswitches in the door? both or one? 3. Center console lock? Please let me know the place to start and what parts to order? Thanks as always to this group. |
The ECU is under the drivers seat. How did you disconnect the seatbelt buzzer in the first place?.

Removed Seatbelt buzzer out behind the speedo. ECU "vernacular." I though was also used as the name for the buzzer that goes off when the Central locking system malfunctions. Seeing that we both know the ECU is under the front seat, and had nothing to do with the buzz coming from the passenger trunk- passenger side, why are you asking a question you already know the answer??

when the (one door locked and the other is not when unlocking the driver door) buzzer... slight buzzer- but audible. not like seatbelt - about half the volume...
|
then itsounds like a bad electrical connection at the control unit or switch(parts 16 & 17)

In my 85 the control module was mounted in the "frunk" just behind the the passenger side hinge.
Your micro switches are attached to the door handle. You have the actuator motor inside the door also. Based on what you've said is the problem, I'd start by checking connections. It sounds like your micro switches work as is everything else in the system. The only thing I can think of that would make it intermittent is if there is a bad connection like solder joint in the control module that is going bad and not sending enough voltage through to the actuators or a wire connection that is loose. I guess you already know how I fixed my problem. |
