I bought a super nice 89 3.2 carrera cab about two years ago. It was maintained by one of the best here in the southland so I thought i would get plenty of trouble free miles right ! Wrong. It looks like I get to drop the engine now to replace the ring gear that was a porsche screwup and while Im at it Ill do the g50 upgrade, another porsche screwup which brings me to my question. Are the factory parts the only parts available for the upgrade.I guess its a good thing I enjoy working on this car, but didnt plan on it quite so soon

Great name!
What do you mean G50 upgrade? Your car came with a G50 from the factory.

He's speaking of the g-50 transmission update.
You don't have to go with the factory fix (for the g50). An alternative method is available, and has been performed by many pelican members (including myself). Check through the archives, you'll find a sea of opinons and advice. Click here : Who has done the G50 fork/shaft upgrade? and here : G50 Shift fork Upgrade help needed As for the ring gear... I only know of the factory fix, but it's not that expensive. Make sure you buy a new, upgraded ring gear. There's no sense in R & R ing everything and then not putting in the "new" part. Click here: `87 Carrera starter gear -> flywheel engagement problem/niose Then of course while you're in there you might want to think about a new clutch... Welcome to 911 ownership

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that the Weltmeister kit is the factory kit, repackaged with a Weltmeister label on it...

I understand you have to enlarge the holes for the factory mod and not the weltmeister?
