Which windshield seal do I have?

Car is 1989 3.2 cab.
I need to pull the windshield to tackle a little rust that is starting to appear. I see there are two types of windshield seals available:
1- with windshield mouldings (I am assuming the moulding is built into the seal as one piece)?
2 - without windshield mouldings (you have to pry out and replace the mouldings individually)

All the threads I have found people have the seal that removal and replacement of the mouldling is required. Option 2. Wayne's book mostly discusses option 2.

It appears I have the 1 piece seal with mouldling included:
Was this common?
Is this aftermarket?
Is one better than the other?

I know Original Porsche seal is the way to go.

looking at the picture it is hard to tell if you have the anodized aluminum molding inserted into the rubber seal or is it the shape of the rubber seal itself. I had to replace my original windshield that had the anodized aluminum molding on my 80SC and for a while I had installed a 1990 C2 glass into my 80SC. The new rubber seal for the C2 was just one piece and where the anodized aluminum molding used to be now just a bump out of the seal (molded rubber). I have just recently replaced the 90 C2 windshield with a replacement 80SC windshield with the correct rubber seal this required that I reinstalled the original anodized aluminum molding into the rubber seal. I was told by the glass installer that they would have removed the seal and the molding as one piece from the car for easy reinstallation. Well in my case, the molding was out of the car for 10 years and they had a tough time straightening the molding and getting it to contour with the glass and seal before installing the glass back into the car.

I hope this helps to show what I tried to explain in my last posting.

The first picture is the anodized aluminum molding on the 80SC seal.

The second picture is of the C2 one piece seal with the rubber molded that looks like the anodized aluminum molding.

The single piece seal is for a 964. You can install a 964 windshield in an SC or 3.2 Carrera if you use the one piece seal with it. And conversely you can use the SC/3.2 windshield in a 964 if you use 2 piece seal with it. The 964 windshield has slightly larger dimensions and needs a slightly thinner seal.
Good Luck

I could not reuse the 90 C2 seal that I had with the 80 SC glass because the two pieces of glass are not the same dimensions. this requires one seal to be thicker than the other.

Thanks for the response. I definitly have the one piece molded seal. I bought the car with
42,000 miles so I assumed the windhield was the original. Is one better than the other?
Why would you want the 964 windshield in a 89?

if your car came with the one piece with the molded rubber trim then that's the way to go. You don't have to deal with getting the anodized aluminum in to the seal before the window is installed. You don't have to deal with the anodizing wearing off of the molding. You only need to use a car care product to keep the rubber clean and to maintain the black color. I believe that Porsche got away from the anodized aluminum trim in the late 80's just because it is a pain to deal with. Actually I did like the look of the molded seal with the 90 C2 glass. my problems was the replacement cost. ~$400 for the 80SC glass and seal vs. ~+$700 for another 90 C2 glass. So my decision was made for me, I went back to period correct glass because it was cheaper. I went with the 90 C2 glass in 2003 because I picked it up at salvage yard for $175 and another $60 for a new seal, that was a good deal back then vs. buying new 80 SC glass.

So I determined I have the windshield and windshield seal from a 964. I ordered the Genuine Porsche seal and it is a dingy looking rubber color. The original one is shiny black. Is this normal? Do I need to specify high gloss black seal? Will it polish up?
