starting problems
My sons 85 Carerra has been having starting problems. Started out one nite after driving all day went to start it and all was getting a clicking noise at the starter. Put jumper cables on to no avail. Ended up pushing it down the road and jump started it. Took out he starter had it tested at local re-builder and was bad. Replaced it with a rebuilt starter from retailer. Worked fine for about a day and started all over again. Would be off and on starting. Click, click, click, click, nothing, then pops. Took this out and had this tested, and this was bad again per local re-builder.(got money back from retainer) Re-builder said buy a new one. We did, bought brand new Bosch. After installing it car started right up but with in a few starts, starting doing the same thing. Can"t be the starter now. Voltages at the starter when tested were good. What can it be? Intermittent voltages, ignition switch? Any ideas. Thanks Jerry

This is a common problem, and has been covered frequently. Pete3799 has a good suggestion. Other things to look at are:
1) Ground to body connection at battery. 2) Ground junction at Intake #1. 3) 14-pin connector on left side of engine bay; yellow wire (junction #1 IIRC). Clean and check both male and female connectors. Be careful prying apart the connector box, or it will barf all 14 wires and pins, making the job more difficult. 4) Check and clean every single fuse and connector at the main fuse box under the front hood. 5) My problem, which was similar to yours, involved poor wiring for an aftermarket alarm system. Check for wiring from ignition switch to bulkhead connector, somebody might have butchered the wiring to install an aftermarket system. I couldn't believe the crap I found there. Also might want to check the wiring from the aftermarket alarm under the front hood. Usually has something to do with the yellow wire---follow that sucker and you'll probably find the issue. Good luck.
