Steve, you are the man! Thank you for coordinating this run every year. If the brake bleed tonight goes well, I will be there.
|
i didn't make the run up to mt hamilton but here's a video of yesterdays event. the first 4 minutes is of our drive out there (sweet flat six sounds), then of the cars in the back lot and finally a short clip of my drive home. it was good to meet some new folks and catch up with old friends. happy new year.

Steve, thanks for organizing a great event from a first timer.
I drove up from the San Jose side, and minutes after I arrived at the peak, dozens of Porsches rolled up. A beautiful windless clear day and spectacular view. There are a few curves that are 'Mini-Pikes Peak', steep drop-offs w no guardrails and no shoulders on either side. It became interesting due to the large number of cyclists -ascending & descending- that resulted in a few hair-raising moments, for both parties. I met several riders descending at high speed only inches from the double yellow line, meeting me mid-point around blind curves. Several times progress came to a full stop, due to blind curves + cyclists on my right. There isn't enough room for 2 vehicles and bikes, somebody is going over the precipice. Troubling, when the slowly ascending cyclists heard me approaching at speed, quite a few groups made absolutely no efforts to move from the center of the lane to the edge, and some continued to ride 2 and 3 abreast. No way they couldn't hear my air-cooled flat six approaching at redline! The cyclist's disregard for road manners/physical injury is puzzling. The majority of cyclists did a great job of sharing the road. I'll do it again next year, with a drone ahead of me clearing the way! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1420250447.jpg |
