single post lift

Hello- This is a movable single post lift that will raise 6000 lbs to over 6 feet. It rolls around like a pallet jack, and would free up floor space that is lost if you were to install a fixed 2 or 4 post lift. Does anyone have any experience with one of these? Thanks | ||

This is mine, its securely bolted to the floor, if I do not have the car balanced so that the weight is evenly distributed, it will bind. I personally would feel uncomfortable with a mobile lift. See my thread... How to fit four cars in a two car garage.

I'll be purchasing a lift in the near future, and this looks appealing to me....would also like to hear if anyone has experience with these.

				single post lift

I am seriously interested in this lift- clearly it is intended for occasional hobby use, not day in day out service work. The base measures 3'-6.5" toe to toe-not really robust, so you will have to spend some time getting the load balanced fore to aft. In addition, I would use at least 2 tall saftey stands for my own peace of mind. But it would work well for my other uses of the shop space, since a fixed post lift would be in the way much of the time. Here is another view with a car up in the air. Has anyone out there used on of these? Thanks

You could not use this for a Parking lift as the four car into a two car post shows .... But for what most of us on this board would use it for ... it looks about right ... Our car weighs about half the rating, which is about half the stress or less (usual rating is half of tested max or less) ... But for tires ... brakes ... cleaning ... and engine drops looks like it was made for it Steve

Did anyone actually get this portable lift? Will be getting lift of some sort this coming year when I get the garage built and this one or one similar would be handy instead of a fixed one.

I've started a fairly detailed thread on the Garage Journal about these. Not a lot of info is out there: Portable, pallet-jack-style single post lifts (Mobileman, et al) - The Garage Journal Board I spoke with a salesman at Eagle Equipment about their Mobileman, and he said he would put me in touch with some of the people they recently sold one to. Single-post lifts are spooky, but I don't see why the steel would fail any more readily than on some jack stand if you stay within its rating. Famous last words?

The steel on those things doesn't bother me, but the quality of the weld joints does...

I work out of a 2 post lift that is high quality and properly installed. Every so often I get some OH SHEET moments when the 911 teeters because of the weight being in the rear. I can't imagine the rocking you will get out of a 1 post lift. And once is installed and you own it, definitely too late. I would be interested to hear from actual owner of this lift.

I used one once and it seemed fine, but I opted for a 2 post lift as the under car access is much, much better and I never looked back! I was worried about the loss of space, but compared to the ease of use and accessibility, I don't even think about!

If you need the floor space...perhaps a table stlye lift is more up your alley. Do a check on Jack Osen's lift....very neat install...invisible unless in use. Bob

I almost bought one like that. The brand was Unic. Here's a video of one in operation, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sIc1BS0BjM&noredirect=1 The one I found was at a commercial garage that had three bays but only two of the bays had doors. They would pull a car into one bay, slide the lift under it and raise it up a foot or two. Then they would simply push the car while it was on the lift into the bay that didn't have a door and work on the car - very clever. The problem with that lift for me is that it takes up a lot of space. I ended with a used Hercules pneumatic lift, Vehicle Lifts - Herkules K900 Lift. When I'm not using it, I park my car on top of it.

Montauk that video is the one I am looking at. I will be building a decent size garage and really don't want to put a permanent one blocking my floor space, I will be storing a few campers in the garage and could move this lift under one to get it out of the way for other projects. Still leaning toward a 2 poster but a 2 poster will have to be almost center of my building when permanently mounted. With this lift I could vary it to either side of the garage depending on height of the vehicle, in my case a short 911 and tall VW bus. Still on the fence and it seems to be hard finding someone with actual experience with this one poster style lift
