1987 Carrera coupe
I am about to install first week in January a new set of carpets from Lakewell in Belgium. The car interiors have been gutted, the center console refurbished and all wires connections disconnected from the cubes (except the thermostat that is disconnected from the cube but remains intact on the other end ) The center carpet has 2 openings, one for the gear shift and the other for the hand brake and heating levers. The installation requires that I lay the center carpet first and insert the center console and then reconnect all the wires back to the cubes and lock it all up. Looking for advice on the following: How do I pass all the wires in the console? (It has a rectangular opening in the back and an enlarged rectangular opening on the bottom of the upper cube.) Do I pass the wires OVER the carpet, behind the console...OR Do I drill a hole in the carpet and pass the wires underneath the carpet? The whole design seems cumbersome and stupid or am I missing something??? |

You need to run the wires UNDER the carpet, cut a hole in it to pass the wire up into the console, the back upright part.

console wires
Why cutting a hole in the carpet? there is an opening already in the console back side?

I hated the console in my 78. Took it out while replacing the carpet and never looked back.

Actually did the same thing. Console is in the rafters.
You asked how it was originally done and I told you. If you don't like the possible answer, then don't ask. Why did they do that? Maybe to keep things cleaner looking rather than having exposed wires.
