Replacement VIN #

Does anyone know where I can get a CARFAX type report for a 78sc. Seems that the Carfax.com wont go back to cars made in 1978.

The reason that I want the report is that my car has a replacement VIN tag and I'd like to know more about it's history. Below is an image of what I have on my drivers door column.

Your best bet might be to do a CA title history.

Thanks for the responses.

Anyone know where I might get a "CA title history" report? I used a search engine and keep ending up at CA DMV. Unfortunatly they do not provide any vehicle history reports.

I do not know how it works in CA- here in Ga we go to the DMV and request the history. It needs to be done in person b/c you have to prove that you have a reason for getting it (being the owner is good enough).

I hate to say this, but you probably need to contact the DMV. Not the local office jerkoffs, but someone in Sacremento and ask why your car has a replacement VIN.

Is there a VIN stamped above the gas tank?

Your car has a replaced vin b/c it was stolen on 6/25/82. I ran a report (NICB- National Insurance and Crime Database) and it shows the theft.

Thanks Sean O,

I guess that this explains why my transmision feels torn up no matter what fluid I put in there! I think this car has been taken for a joyride or two in her past.

Thanks for the information.

Here is a pic of the VIN above the gas tank. It looks like the original tag or stamp.

Well the mystery is solved, but FYI, the CA DMV does title history reports if you go in person. As in previous post, you must be the owner and have some kind of reason.
