Improved "one-touch" wiring for 964 tail retro-fit

Well many of you have seen the diagram I crudely drew for wiring in an electric rear tail to an earlier car. Well, now Jack Olsen and I have conspired to come up with a better solution. It eliminates relays from the picture and gives it a "one-touch" feature. This eliminates the need to hold the switch and count to 7 while you wait for the tail to finish its cycle.

Now all you need to do is flick it once and it does the rest. I still use the micro-switches to click it off. This was necessary since the unit isn't sensitive enough for the small motor used with the tail. This was resulting in excessive strain on the tail mechanism.

I've made another "crude" diagram that I faxed to Jack. he should be posting it soon.

The one-touch control unit is made by AutoLoc. They have a website. www.autoloc.com. Phone (503) 693-1918 or (847) 604-8665. The unit is model # WC1000. I think it's $35. And no, I don't work for them. Well good luck!

P.S. Be sure to buy that window switch from Pelican!

The miracle of the internet; 1100 miles apart, and we get instructions on the web in less than half an hour.

Here's a better link to the Autoloc page:

Here's Tyson's wiring diagram. Click on the thumbnail for a larger version.

Jack, would it be better to scan it in sideways? It doesn't print well in this configuration.

Also, to make it easier to find the unit on the autoloc website, type in WC1000 in the quick search at the left. Type it just like I did. Otherwise it's difficult to find.

Okay, the diagram's been rotated. Here it is again:

And here's a link to the load-sensing unit itself:

Ok you guys should have told me this like 4 months ago! I wired it up the way you said in your last diagram, with LED lights and everything looks really nice. So if I upgrade the to the autoloc will I loose the light function, even if I keep the realys. Could I keep both systems? Or just add the autoloc system to your last diagram? Hmmm, help me out here guys. And how big is the autoloc unit?
Thanks again, Ken

Well, yes you can still use the lights. The microswitches still work the same, so the only thing you need to do is junk the relays and send the microswitch wires to the autoloc. The lights can still get their ground signal from the switches. The unit is quite small. Maybe 1"x2.5"x3".

If you like, I can add in the light wiring to the diagram, fax it to Jack, and have him post it again.

Actually I'll just tell you how to do it. It's just so damn simple. Follow the above diagram. Now simply run one of the lights ground wires to the grey wire on the unit, and the ground wire for the other light to the white/blue wire on the unit. That's it!

Oh, one more thing. Run the positive wires from the lights to the red wire on the control unit.
