Waffle Weave Dashboard Vinyl Source???
 

Does anybody know where to get the waffle weave pattern vinyl for the dashboard that came on the 1969 cars. I need some to spruce up my dash and fix where the PO cut it to install a cheapo radio and cannot seem to find a source.

I think that this is what you want. It is available right here from out hosts at Pelican Parts. I used it for fixing the same problem with my 911 and it looks fine. I'm not sure if it is exactly "correct and original", but it looks fine to me. Especially for the price.

I believe the exact original material is NLA. The replacement stuff is close enough for most folks, but you basically have to recover the entire panel/dash for it to look right (as opposed to a quilt of 2 separate patterns).

Another option is to find some similar vintage door panels and cannibalize their fabric. In SoCal we see cheap/free 911 and 914 door panels quite often with all the cars being parted-out or raced-out.

I've got the original material from my 71 (I replaced it with leather) that you can have. It is in excellent condition and is already cut to fit. Give me a day or 2 to pull it out of storage and inspect it to make sure there's no problems. -- Curt

if you can find a 69 door panel, cut out what you need.

I remember that some of the materials that were used for these interiors actually came from the same suppliers that GM used.

This may be a clue in looking for vinyl material for these cars. I do know that some of the perforated vinyl in my '70E was the same as some that I saw recently in a '59 Chevy.

As usual, JW hit the nail on the head. I just re-did portions of my dash and the radio cutout with vinyl cut from an old door panel. I am certain you can get these cheap from a dismantler, or somehwere on the boards/Ebay. I got mine free when I bought a front S bumper from another member.

Jletujen -- I looked at the 914 material and it is different than the 911 material and I was hoping not to have to change everything.

What year did they go to the smooth stuff on the dash plate, '72?

Looking at the pictures of the ST that Curt recently highlighted, I see that the ST's interior is very similar to the way that mine looked (prior to replacing the vinyl on the dash). The interesting thing is that the door panels do NOT appear to have the same material as the dash.

My doors have the same panel material as shown in the above picture, and my dash the same dash material as shown above. The two do not seem anything alike.

I think what gives it a different appearance is that the pattern on the doors is vertical while the pattern on the dash is horizontal.

The pattern on my doors has the creases randomly oriantated while on the dash the creases appear to be oriantated at a 90 degree angle.
