Need help with oil leak

Finally got under my car today to check out oil leak. It appears to be a spot of JB weld? There is oil coming from this spot. It's the passenger side, all the way back passed the 3rd cyl. Yo can see the location of the oil cooler in the picture. What sits behind the JB Weld? Do I have a cracked block that someone fixed?

That is a common area for a leak. Looks like someone didn't use enough epoxy, and/or didn't prep/clean the surface well enough.

What is behind there? Is it cracked? Or a hole? Why is it common?
