Need photoshop help...my "rally" project
First a little background.
Had my 87 Carrera for about 14 years. Was DD for first 9 or so. 150K miles but never wrecked and in good mechanical shape. When retired to "toy" status lowered, stiff tbars, a/c delete, wide 17" wheels etc. So its no garage queen but a driver with some patina. But I drive and have tracked it a little. I enjoy it. Not worried that its becoming a collectible...'Ive saved and catalogued all parts for the next "caretaker" if they want to return it to original who will purchase it from my estate I suppose Likely I'll never track it again because I probably can get medical clearance. About 18 months ago I suffered a stroke. Recovering but am left with some residual left leg weakness. Likely I'll never track it again because I probably cant get medical clearance....in any event wouldn't want to put other drivers at risk. Find it more and more difficult to get out of a lowered 911. I live in a rural area with lots of unimproved backroads, gravel roads, levee roads, dirt roads. Solution to my dilemma? Build a mild rally-esque car to play with. Not a competition rally car but a cafe racer to enjoy on rural roads on the weekends. Certainly not as comprehensive or beautifully executed as blagave"s rothman tribute or as race ready as Paul's Braids wheel race car. I've raised the ride height and replacing front and rear bumpers with shave SC/RS front and rear. One of the first things I needed was 15" wheels to sport taller sidewall rubber. So a local fellow pelican provided me with a set of 15" cookies and a set of 15" Enkei mesh wheels....both far lighter than the 17" Rotas with 225 / 255 rubber. So I need the fotoshop help for wheel refinishing colors. Id like to see how the enkeis look with black or white or gold centers. The cookies in solid black solid white or solid gold to mimic Capagnolios. Love to buy some Braids eventually but wanna make sure I enjoy it repurposed before going big bucks full rally prep! Maybe a big white number ball on the door for cafe racer look. Also rocker cover painted black. Any suggestions or comments welcome. Thanks in advance! 17" Rotas http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418513166.jpg 15' Enkeis http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418513221.jpg 15" Cookies (actually dont look bad) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418513289.jpg |
15" cookies. Scars or duck rear spoiler, and maybe a roof rack.
It looks like a lot of fun, and with "gravel" tires on it will looks even better. Maybe a tube safari type bumper along with the rs and some lights........ |

like your suggestions.....kind of thinking the enkeis are a little "miami vice." but seen 1970/80's rally 911s with mesh white wheels. Thanks for your comments |
Glad to hear you have recovered!
Can't say for the Enkeis, but yes, both the ATS Phones and Cookies are very light wheels despite being cast. Here are some images. BTW - second wheels are Phonedials, not Cookie Cutters. They are produced by the same manufacturer though: ATS. Phonedials were actually standard equipment on most later 911s - 99% of US cars were upgraded either on the option sheet or upon delivery at the dealer. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418518917.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418518929.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418518947.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418518954.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418518962.jpg Edit: Sigh, forget the number circle. Here it is on one: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418519146.jpg I like the Enkeis but fear if you're flinging mud they'll be a real joy to clean. The Phonedials in white, maybe even a pearl white, could look good especially with the number circle. Here are some pearl white "Phones" on a 944 Turbo Cup, in rare and scary/brittle 944-cup-only magnesium construction: http://www.classicdriver.com/sites/d...?itok=AXZMme3l Happy Holidays! |
IMHO, Gold phones with a gold "Carrera" script would look retro-inspired nice.

French toast....thanks SO much. Really helps. Don't know why I typed cookies when I meant phone dials. Damn stroke! LOL
THANKS AGAIN! |

If/when you refinish remember I think the lug seat areas are meant to remain unpainted so it isn't slippery. Could be wrong, just what I've heard. I think white would look good, or even silver. I saw pics of a set refinished in a gloss, non-metallic grey which I thought looked pretty spiffy. Think of Audi's Aviator Grey (both cars are Aviator Grey): http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/...x325uhzjpg.jpg |
Maybe I'll end up doing a Belgian Bastos/Belga tribute

I think you are correct on lug seats being left bare metal. I'm leaning towards white on phone dials with aggressive gravel tires. Although that Audi Gray looks sweet. And maybe mesh wheels done with black centers and polished lips with a set of tall all season performance tires for tarmac use. So many decisions...thanks for you help suggestions. |
