arrg valve job done at last

So once I started the job at home, it still took longer than it should have, BUT there were lots of good from it. In the end, I used mostly the backside method with some use of the Kirk tool.
My first attempt was so messed up from trying to use a Dial Indicator. I used the Kirk tool to get close and then found that it was hard get it right every time. The holding of the knob while tightening the lock nut, was the variable. So I checked with the backside method and got them set. The only thing was that on the second go around I still found some too loose. But after that second round I felt more confident in the results.

Once back together it ran so smooth and without the tick that had been present before. Other things that were good about doing this job are,

1. No broken head studs, YEA.

2. Cut open the oil filter and found it to be clean and free of debris.

3. I'm now sure I could do the job in less than three days.

4. I had to grind the lower valve covers enough to get them off around the header installed by the PO. So that saves three hours next time. Now I know that the valves hadn't been adjusted for quite a while. Just some of the excess rib material, I don't think it weakened them at all.

Great job!

I use the "back-side" method (second time) as well and it usually takes me about 4 hours or so, as I take the side-tins as well as the CAT for easier access.
