Question Muffler Identification / Modification

Hi All,

When I got my car the PO said that the muffler was a Bursch, however, looking at some bursch mufflers on pelican parts it rapidly became clear my mine wasn't one!!

Mine is stainless steel single (3 inch) out, it's a banana type muffler that bolts up to my SSI's.

Just wondering if there's any way of telling what make it is without taking it off the car? I can's see any obvious markings on the bottom or sides.

The reason I want to know is that I'm looking in to converting it to a dual-out and need to find out what it's internal structure is.

Any advice/comments appreciated!

Cheers,

Tim.

take it off. It might be an oem muffler or a dansk...

OK,

I've just found out where the PO bought it from. He bought a kit containing a pair of SSI's and the muffler for about £1800 from Stuttgart Connection in the UK.

I just phoned them and was told that at the moment they supply dansk, but 2 years ago when this kit was bought it could be a Liestrex? (not sure of the spelling).

So, anyone got any ideas about any visual differences of these 2, anyone got any pics?

Cheers,

Tim.

Hmm. Not heard of that make! Seems that in Uk it's the option of the expensive Dansk or even more expensive custom exhaust!

Cool

Liestriex is not the correct spelling maybe liestrez something like that. They are an original equipment of muffler stuff to Porsche and VW.

Good luck,

Tim,

Are you going to chop your existing rear exhaust to make it a twin outlet? That is a serious project.

You have to chop the rear apron as well for the 2nd pipe.

Hope you are good at chopping.

P.S. How's the targa top?

Hey Brian,

Long time no hear!

Once I've established what sort of exhaust I've got I'll make a decision as to whether it's worth chopping it about or just buy a new one. I've never chopped before so I'd be getting someone else to do it!

Oh yeah, the targa top! waiting for the insurance company to pay up, they've agreed to pay for a second hand top and pay to have it restored (although I've already bought the top). Last I heard from them they were trying to get out of paying up because I forgot to tell them about an SP30 speeding fine that my wife got 4 years ago - B**tards!!!!!

Cheers,

Tim.

I changed my exhaust box before the trip to the Classic Le Mans (and bought new front tyres and got an SP30 on the way - better tell the insurance co.)

My previous exhaust was stainless but the weld to the tailpipe had holed so I bought a new stainless OEM Dansk (bought from Bert Gear at Berlyn Services - £180). I made the decision to stick with the standard fitment because of the noise restrictions on many of the track days. From what I have seen the 3.2 Carrera with a standard exhaust comes out at 100 Db at 4,000 rpm and anymore than that will require the fitment of a silencer extension to be permitted at Goodwood, Castle Coombe and Bedford. The extension costs £50 - so two tail pipes could be expensive.

You should name and shame the insurance company. And anyway after 4 years a penalty comes off the licence and many insurance companies only include offences within 3 years.
