WOW! eBay sport seats
Folks,
Some pix of the sport seats I picked up (paid dearly, that is!) last week from ebay. Just amazing. The story is they were removed in '73 from an early-70's 911 being transformed into a rally car. Wrapped in plastic, they've been in storage since. The headrests from my original beige vinyl seats match perfectly. Greg

A couple more. The driver's seat has a spot, but otherwise looks new. Even still had the plugs in the headrest holes.
Check the bottoms! I suppose if you've got to spend $2K for seats, they should look like this. Greg

I thought the factory never put perf'd skins on the side bolsters.

Those seats look like they have smooth side bolsters to me.
Will that little spot come out?!? |

To put things in perspective, this whole brand new modern leather sofa set costs about the same as your 30 year old spotted seats. And that includes free delivery!
PS: I'll take the seats any day too. ![]()

Nice find. Better get them before the fun run so we can spill all sorts of stuff on them. Regards,

Well, if you had a Cayenne it is probably big enough to try and fit the sofa in...

Those sure look perforated to me. I was also under the impression that perf'd side bolsters weren't available from the factory. -- Curt

Yes, the bolsters are perforated, all vinyl. As for 'from the factory', well here's the bottom of the driver's seat. A little mildew that cleaned off and a little corosion on the bracket.
Now, zooming in on the label remnant at the upper-right. The glare makes it hard, but parts of the words "original" and "made in germany" are clear above the 'ORS' in Porsche. Greg

Curt, keep in mind these seats aren't leather...they are hydes from the rare beast, "Nagua"....
My leather seats have perfs in the center section, smooth on the bolsters. I'm not sure about the perfs...but the bottom view, the straps & foam, the hog rings, etc...sure looks like "factory original" to me...$2K sounds like a good buy, probably because most people need black?

This pic is from "Original Porsche 911", page 35.
As far as the spot, I have no idea what it is. I've tried vinyl cleaner and spray cleaner without effect. Any ideas?? Greg

I guess that pretty much shuts the book on the originality issue! Maybe the vinyl was perf'd and the leather ones weren't? -- Curt

snip a piece off and send to leatherique.com
they will match the color and send you a dye... try a little on bottom...if it blends well then use on the seat worse case scenario, give botht he seats the once over with the dye to refresh the color... congrats...looks sahweeet |

I believe the side bolsters were perforated on the '70-71 sport seats.

The original seats in my 71 S (UK car) are beige like Gregs but they do NOT have perforated sides !! Strange

Greg, they look good! Can't wait to see them and your car at our next fun run. Are you going to the PCA meeting Saturday at White Post Restorations?

Jim (and others) thanks!
No, I'm not going to make it Saturday. Now that I have the old seats out of the car (just this morning!) I'm thinking about everything else I ought to do: clean out 30 years of grime, clean the carpet and floormats, add harness eye-bolts to the passenger side, a rollbar or harness bar... You know how it goes - on and on and ... Just gotta love it Greg
