83SC Transmission shifting problem when hot
I have a 1983SC, the transmission shifts great when the car is cold but when it gets hot the shifter will grind and not want to go in gear. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not so much heat related but...
Check the clutch cable for proper operation. Adjust as needed. Check the shifter related bushings as well as the coupler. It could be an internal issue but start with the easy things first. There are several threads on these tasks which will give more detailed info.EDIT> How many miles on the gearbox? When was the fluid changed out last? |
+1 on what Oh Haha says. Nail the basics. Take your time. Search using the advanced search function. There is so much info here your head will spin.
Tell us a little more. Did this just occur? |
What about gear oil? Too slippery/thin when it warms up? A 915 requires some friction for the synchros to work.
With Kendall dino-oil in my 915, it has some resistance when cold, but shifts fine warm. |
Feel like ensuring proper fluid type is a good place to start. Too slippery or certain synths not good for the 915. I've used swepco 201 and Kendall nsmp - prefer the swepco 201.

As "Arne2" and "schoward" have said, make sure you are not running synthetic gear oil in a 915 gear box. The 915 likes dino oil. :)
I use Swepco 201 in my 915 gear boxes, but Kendell dino is also an excellent gear oil. BER |
Thank you all very much Great Forum
Once again can't stress how much I appreciate all the feedback. I will start with the basics as indicated.
