Where can I get Steering rack snap ring?
After a weekend of Driver Education at the track my 1986 911 car started pulling a little and I thought my left tie rod had issues. While installing turbo tie rods I found the real problem. A snap ring that holds a bushing at the end of the left side of the steering rack was cracked and let the bushing come out of the rack, causing the steering rack shaft that connects to the left tie rod to be more loose than it should. I am told the snap ring is an internal part of the steering rack and I would need to get a whole refurbished steering rack. I am not ready for that yet. That snap ring is right at the edge of the rack where the shaft come out. It is easy to get to and push back in. Would anybody know who could sell me such snap ring? I don't mind buying another bushing and its two rubber seal bands too if needed. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1419211777.jpg

One more picture of steering rack snap ring
Here is the snap ring inside the end of the steering rack. The snap ring holds a bushing inside the steering rack and keeps the shaft (that connects to the left tie rod) straight.

Z... perhaps JB does not know what "PM" is. So will add detail.
Go to link: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/830842-play-steering-mechanism.html Be signed in. Click on "Autoban"... that's Juergen. Select "Send Private Message" ... then complete form. That is a "PM." Juergen went through a great deal to get these rings. Compliments to him! (I got a few. He's man of his word.) |
I got retainer rings from Juergen and they fit perfectly! The car is back on the road and with those new Turbo tie rods the steering is superb. Thanks everybody for all the help. This Forum is gold to me!
