Longhood 911 S - Is there rubber between the fender chrome and the car?

Putting some S chrome trim back on a longhood. The fender lip chrome I have is used and it looks like there use to be rubber between the trim and car originally? The diagram I have shows the chrome screwing straight to the fender. Please advise. Thanks

I have removed the fender surrounds molding on a few pretty original 69's and there wasn't any rubber.

At least for 69-73 the trim gets a strip of narrow beading around the perimeter. It goes on the front and rear bumpers as well as the top edge of the side deco. There is a square slot in the trim that accepts it. Does yours have the slot? The part number for the plastic beading is 999.911.198.40.

Thanks gents. I will have to check tomorrow but I know the rocker chrome did have the rubber bead..although these pieces were new as was the rubber. The rubber that appeared to be on the fender trim looked to be glued. I do know the rubber bead your are talking about and will check it for accepting this, but I don't think it does.

Thanks again for the response.

My bad. I was commenting on the bumper and rocker trim, not the wheel arch trim. I agree with Jeff Burger.

This is how the S got put back together. I did put a small rubber trim pc between the bumper and aluminum rub strip. My earlier post is incorrect.

I think the confusion stems from you labeling the wheel arch trim as "S".

The wheel arch trim was optional for all models and was not a standard "S" item. I agree with others, no rubber trim listed on the wheel arch moulding however, there has in the past been discussions about whether a double sided tape was used underneath similar to the LWB rocker moldings.

My original wheel arch trim had what looked like a black sealing material on the surface that was in contact with fender only. It was not a rubber part but appeared to have been brushed on just prior to riveting at fender lip, dries hard and seals out dirt from inside wheel well. I have seen this on trim that was removed. Hope this helps.
