need a little help picking out a color

Hi All,
I have a 90s C2 Cab that currently has a few shades of whites on the body. The fenders, doors, and front hood is pinkish white. The bumpers and body is blueish white. The pop-up tail has yet another shade of white on it. The interior and cab top is dark blue. The shades of whites are subtle and you cannot tell the difference in the afternoon lights. I am seriously thinking about repainting the Porsche in something like silver or black since white is not my preffered color on a car. Could you please help me with a color that goes with blue interiors. I like black, but it may clash with the blue interior. I think silver would be a good option. Thanks for your help. Andy

Sepia Brown! :D

Cornpanzer, you've been hang'n around Planter too long. ;)

White (one shade) would be my fist choice.

There is a OE silver with just a touch of blue, that would pull it off well.

Perhaps you're thinking of Polar Silver?

My vote: ARCTIC SILVER :)

Tim Walsh 10-17-2002 05:30 AM

hey my car's sephia brown and I like it. I personally like silver and ossi blue but go with what YOU think looks good.

atlporsche 10-17-2002 05:35 AM

exactly...car colors are like pizza toppings, no one will ever agree on the best way to do it.

I'm leaning towards mazda protege yellow for the 912...

signal orange!!!

hahaha those following the trials and tribulations of my project will understand

I think silver or white are great colors with blue

my personal favorite is a gunmetal grey...alot of lexus and BMW seem to be using it...a shiny med dark grey...I think that would go great with blue

but if you want to be a little crazy blue and orange are actually really good colors.
back in the day McLaren Racing (of the famed F1 and MB-F1) used official colors of orange and blue really stunning I think

or if you want to do the georgio armani monotone thing get a different shade of blue to match the blue interior...a really dark royal blue is nice too

I think silver cars are really cool, but just WAY TOO common...make your car stand out from the crowd

post pics!!!

Silver does seems to be a little common now adays, but it looks great though (like Mikkel's). Another color is speed yellow. Damn!! sepia brown begins to grow on me too:-). Andy

Tim, I like Sepia Brown. Was just being a wise-guy for the late model 911 guys. :)

I am in the same boat (multi-white cab with dark blue interior and top). I am looking for a dark silver, not quite as dark as gun metal grey. Has anyone seen the silver metalic clearcoat or diamond silver clearcoat ifrom 1979 Porsches (see http://www.paintscratch.com/cgi-bin/makepaint.cgi )? Also, how difficult is it to change a car's color and to do it right so it looks like it has always been the new color? Any ideas on a ball-park price range for having that done in the mid-Atlantic region?

Thanks,

Lew

don't all you guys order pizzas with sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, and onions??!!:D

atlporsche 10-17-2002 07:57 AM

hell no...mushrooms suck.

I'm a meat lovers kinda guy....pepperoni sausage hamburger, and green peppers....

My car was originally white. Now it's Arctic Silver and it looks like it's always been like that. Repainting my car is the best thing I ever did to it - and the most expensive

A suggestion: Go to your local Porsche dealership and get a brochure on 996 colours. There are darker silver grey colours than Arctic silver and Polar silver.

Meridian Metallic seems pretty nice, but I've never seen a car in that colour so I don't know for sure.

Seal Grey Metallic is quite dark, but it can look very good indeed. I've seen a 1986 911 Turbo Look Cabriolet fully repainted in this colour and it looks awesome.

Then there's Zermatt Silber from the early/mid 80ties. Looks very good also, but has a lighter shade.

Sausage and black olive.

Rauschequartz Metallic (smoky Quartz Metallic). Gorgeous, stealthy, formal as well as wash-n-wear, barely shows dirt at all. Invisible to cops. It is similar to the '74 Turbo in the current Excellence mag, which is Tobacco Metallic, another excellent color.

seriously matching blue interior is hard. it's like navy blue casual pants, it kinda seems like it matches alot of colors but never really look right... unless with a white shirt.

i think you are limited to white or a shade of blue.

The one thing that I would seriously consider is if you are going to spend the extra $$ and paint the door jams, under the hood, etc. If you don't want to spend that cash, then stick with white.
I think that there is nothing worse than looking at a car, opening the door, and seeing a whole different colorhttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/a_pukey.gif

I'll second the meat lover's....oh yeah, Grand Prix White!

bigchillcar 10-17-2002 09:14 PM

I have to second (or is it third or fourth...??) the vote for white. I'd rather live with a color not my favorite than have to see a different color every time I raise the hood...

Personally, my car is gold, but it's a shade lighter than the 'original gold' that it came with. The P.O. apparently saw fit to have it painted, albeit very nicely, slightly lighter. But the difference is noticeable only to a few.

Gold wasn't my first choice initially, but I really loved the car and don't plan on changing to a funadamentally different color. I've just grown to appreciate it.

If you don't want a white car, maybe consider selling and buying the color you desire if it's that important to you.

bell 10-17-2002 09:22 PM

i love GP white......if it's the cars original color i'd stick with it to keep the value up.
however guards red has grown on me to be my favorite:D
