Post CD Player

Tell me, auto-audiophiles, how do you (safely) clean the laser lens in ones car CD deck?

I had Charles Mingus playing his mean 'ol heart out, exhorting his Jazz Workshop band, shouting Oh Yeah!!... and just then it skipped, making Chas sound like he'd ate too many spicy chicken wings. Disc was sparkling clean, so I'm thinkin' there must be dust inside the Blaupunkt. Help!

Some help you are, Kurt.
I forgot to mention the car was not even moving when the skipping occured. It was sitting still inside my warehouse, windows wide open, playing as I worked near the car.
This Blaupunkt has never skipped, even over railroad tracks and the moon craters they call potholes here in Vancouver.

Try going to your local electronics store, around here we have many like Best Buy, Circuit city etc, and look for a CD Lens Cleaner kit. Usually these are CDs with a small very fine set of bristles in the middle of the radius of the disc. They come with instructions and you play the disc like a normal CD. While it is spinning it is cleaning your lens. I have one and I find that it does help especially after the CD player has been used for over 100 hours.

Good on ya, fan!
I thought I saw something like that in a Radio $hit store yesterday. I will pick one up and give it a try.

You see, I only have 2 CD players...1 in the car, and another junky one in the garage. The music I'm really passionate about is on (gasp) vinyl!! So, I don't know much about the care and feeding of CD players.

The car player was skipping again last night, so I'm eager to get it fixed. It's either that or a costly trip to the Blaupunkt stealer..er..dealer. Thanks again for the tip.

I agree- stay with the vinyl.
Is it skipping on just this cd, or on other cd's as well? CD's-just like our vinyl- can be damaged but look pretty darn good.
Dust is unusual in the players- but I hope that is your problem- good luck and good listening

Got the CD deck cleaning gizmo from the Radio $hit store....("do you need any batteries sir?").... it appears to have done the trick. Must have been some Siamese cat hair blinding the laser. Thanks plainfan!
