RS Carpet and Console delete
 

I recently replaced my linen/ ivory carpets with the RS charcoal gray and love the new look. Much easier to keep clean too.

Interior removed. Fuzz, glue residue and a little surface rust.

A layer of sound deadening (roof flashing stuff from Lowes).

A layer of Lobucrod (same as the aluminum/mylar bubble sheet from Lowes) and some 1/4in neoprene. I built up layers of the neoprene to blend in the back seat mount.

I didn't want to put the old center console in so I relocated the rear window defroster and hazard switch to the dash. I haven't finished rerouting the wires and replacing the resistor pack with a proper PWM controller, but I made a mount for the AC controls that mounts under the ashtray similar to the Griffith/ Kuehl center vent.

Finally, I fabricated a cover for the shift mechanism (sheet metal, bent, covered with black vinyl) that would also allow me to keep my shift boot (redyed black). The tabs shown allowed the cover to be attached firmly with black trim screws.

Obviously, there is still a lot of work to do but I thought I would share this progress. Hopefully, something I have done will help another forum member. Have a great New Year everyone.

Also, I took some sound level measurements with an iphone app and they were:

All measurements on same road, cruising at 70mph in 5th.
With stock carpet, back seats, sound deadening etc.: 70dB
Rear seats and speaker deck removed: 72dB
Interior stripped (only front seats remained): 80dB
Final condition, RS carpets, etc.: 71dB

Not really scientific but I feel comfortable stating that I removed quite a bit of weight, improved the interior looks and did not increase interior sound. I think you could actually reduce noise further while removing weight by adding a layer of BQuiet VComp or similar MLV.

Nicely done! Could you post a pic of your final shifter that is a bit brighter?

Removing the console makes all the difference and just expands leg room dramatically.

I like the A/C control location! That's exactly what I would go for if (when) I remove the console. I love the no-console look (and knee room).

I recently removed my Carrera's center console and non-working aftermarket radio (including the amp installed under the passenger seat) and doing so made me come to the conclusion that I need to replace the crappy carpeting as well. Yours looks good and gives me inspiration. Thanks.

I'm reconfiguring my 911 to a "stockish" interior and i have the Appbiz RS carpet kit as well to install,keep posting your progress as i will be following this !
Not sure what to do yet about the Hargett shifter though ...

vintagecarlover: cardboard cutout? If you are referring to the shifter base cover, I just measured it out, marked the sheet metal and cut using tin snips. Then bent using a harborfreight seamer and covered using 3M #77 and leatherette vinyl. Dimensions (in mm):

G50 shifter base:
Length: 240 (straight part 195)
Width: 105 (raised part 95)
Height: 25
Rear bolts (c-c): 58
Shifter neutral: 130f/ 110r
Third gear: 75 from rear
Second gear: 65 (base), 115 (shaft) from front
Shift boot: OD 132, ID 117
