Question Where to mount CD Changer

Curious where some of you have mounted your CD Changer. I mounted mine in front trunk (near firewall) just off-center towards passenger side. Just screwed the changer mounts through carpet into that cardboard like material. It sits on a piece of foam rubber.

I don't get much skipping at all, probably due to the foam. The bad thing about this spot is it blocks access to the hatch above the gas tank (heater/AC mechanicals I believe).

Got a better place? Thanks for the posts!

Jason,

My Sony 10 was mounted on the passenger side of wheel well and is out of the way of smuggler's hatch, spare tire ect. Seems to work real well, just wish my golf club bag/stand would fit in the front luggage area

Just make sure it's mounted to a solid surface so on some rough bumps the screws don't pull out.

Tomorrow, I am having a PPI done on a 1993, 964 that I hope to purchase - the present owner has the 6cd Kenwood changer mounted vertically in the right rear footwell, on the bulkhead below the seat. Owner claims this location works well since it is in the climate controlled area and he can reach it from the driver's seat to change cassettes. No one sits in the back seat in any event so the space is otherwise wasted. I haven't seen the car in person yet, (it's 1,300 miles away), so I cannot comment directly.

I have a Sony 10 cd changer that I mounted under the drivers seat. I wanted to be able to change the cd cartidge with out stopping and getting out of the car. The changer fits in just fine under the seat. I have had no problems with skipping CD's

I think that's a *really* good idea. I'm kinda thinking about a sub in the right-hand footwell, but still a good idea (can't put the sub in the left footwell cos of the *huge* amp under there).

Thanks for the posts guys. I prefer the trunk and will probably move it closer to where the spare is.

Best Regards

For as much as I use mine, maybe mine should go into the trunk (of the Honda). Just another boy toy for the Porsche for long drives.

Chuck,

reckon the rear footwells against the bulkhead might not be the best place

- anyone looking into the car might be able to see the changer and so be tempted to break in?

Thinks there's plenty of space under the passenger seat, so this would still be in the climate controlled area and within reach.

Good luck with the car!

Glove box, easy to get to, easy to hide, doesn’t take up much storage. It doesn't get a whole lot of use these days. I don't think I fully appreciated my car when it was installed five years ago.

My 12-disc changer is under the passenger seat. Works great.

CD changer

I mounted my CD changer under the drivers seat and then wired it to play through my original Blaupunk radio. Also I put a switch on the antenna so that I only put it up when using radio...which is not often.

I have a six disc Alpine in the glove compartment. In my opinion this is the best combination of convenience and security in a cabriolet. I never really keep anything in a car other than the registration and proof of insurance, so the glove compartment is usually going to waste anyway. My other car has the changer in the trunk, and I have found that to be inconvenient on many occassions.
