Nope. Later cars have threaded shift levers, instead of the press-on!

Yep. It will fit.
I had an '86. The treaded lever was not introduced until the '87 model year. |

Why do you want to waist it, sell it to someone who needs a good 73s gear knob

Yeah! If your knob is in good shape, I know somebody with a '73RS who would LOVE to have it...a REAL RS, not a replica...5 speed pattern, under clear plastic?

Michael...your beautiful '73 is for sale on e bay, right? I plan on keeping my '72. But really, the knob? I DO have a friend with an RS who needs one..original knob on his car has cracked/scratched plastic, as so many were, if the guy shifting was a "ring knocker", wore a big ring on his right hand. Are you admitting to being a "ring knocker"? It's okay...confession is good for the soul.

PWD 72,
You are correct the car is for sale, but doesn't mean I am still trying to fix some of it inperfections. I am begining to think that I am not going to get my reserve, only time will tell. Michael |

Didn't mean to start a civil war. The shift knob in question (off '73 911S) is a leather knob with Porsche crest, not shift pattern. It's for sale on ebay, and i was considering bidding on it for my '86. So, NO, i don't have one. Sorry for the confusion.
I've decided against it, so if interested, bid away on ebay. Mike |

Leather knob with a crest? Like the one in all the aftermarket catalogs back in the 70's? Sold for something like $4.95 new...
THanks for the clarification... ![]() |

I would never consider it a civil war with PWD, we are both very much into our cars, and understand how hard it is to find some parts.

Yep! More of a friendly and fun banter. These guys with the new cars, they just don't get the mystique of the early ones...
