New member introduction
Apologies for this being my third post instead of fist to introduce myself but still finding my way around the forum!
Was looking for maybe a "new members" section but either there isnt one? or refer to above! Thought it only civil and correct to introduce myself........ My name is Pete, I live in Las Vegas for the winters and Northern UK in the summers at present (wife is US citizen, Im English and self employed in UK construction industry so we come to Vegas for winters to avoid the weather and to see her family) Been a Porsche owner for a long time (previous 924 Carerra GT and the wife is getting a Boxster S when we return to UK in February). Had some crazy cars in my time including a Lamborghini Countach! Mad keen on motorbikes too and raced pro road race in my younger days Had my current 911 (in UK) for around 15 years but unfortunately its been in storage for about the last ten, now ready to get it back on the road and used now Ive got the garage space and hopefully more time. The car is a based on a 1976 chassis, currently running a SC engine and 915 box but I will be changing this set up one day. I bought it off a film director who was a Porsche nut and used the car to become a Hill Climb champion. He had spent a fortune on it and had a much more powerful engine in which he wouldnt sell with the car. Still learning what I have got (hopefully you guys can help) but I am told, by those who know, it has a torque tube conversion for the previous engine/box and weltmeister anti-roll bars, strut brace, bigger brakes with brake bias switch pagid blue pads, different suspension, full body kit (which some may not like but I love), safety devices roll cage, willans harnesses, Ridguard seats, ignition cut off switch and fire system etc. Know it was featured in an early edition of 911 and Porsche World mag and it was a well known car, built by Mark King of Stuttgart Connections and Ive got receipts for over $60000 spent on it at Autofarm Porsche Specialists in UK over the years. I want to get rid of some of the track biases parts on it and make it more practical as a daily driver, upgrade the interior etc. Fairly mechanically minded due to my bike racing days so wanting to do as much as I can to the car myself. The wife is keen to learn too! Hoping to get to one of the swap meets while in USA and maybe meet some of you Would appreciate any help you can give me Thanks and Happy New Year to you all Pete |
Welcome to Pelican!
Your 911 sounds pretty cool. Post some pics when you can. I think you will find this forum to be an excellent resource as well as a great bunch of gearheads/friends. |
Welcome you will find excellent resource and contact.

Welcome to the forum Pete. As a fellow bike guy(but not a racer like you), I can say with certainty that you will be fine working on your Porsche. It is a great stress reliever.
Now get some pictures on here ASAP! LOL. |
Welcome. If the car has a racing pedigree and is well sorted for that, you might be better off keeping it as is and getting something else to use for the road, it sounds like it's well set up and anything you take away from that may detract from it. Pictures will help! It could be terribly expensive to street the car back up depending on what you're looking fore.
I'm sure you'd be able to swap it with someone looking for exactly what you have and you then have more leeway in looking for what you need. |

Passed her car and bike test in England this year having never drove a manual or rode a bike ever - even a pushbike! Just got her a Triumph Speed Four for her birthday and shes longing to strip, upgrade and service it with me ready to use this year. One of her Christmas presents was Waynes 101 projects for Boxster ready for use when we go back to England. Im gonna order the same 911 book plus the engine one. |

Think what I want from it quite achievable over time, its just things such as :- Interior - Race seats and harnesses are a PITA and look a little boy racer for me ans Ive no interest in taking it to the track, so Im wanting to put in sports leather seats, sound system, LED dash lights, center console, carbon fiber upgrades - have some parts already and my old school friend makes carbon for F1/GP2 teams, OEM manufacturers and GP teams so I have access to his oven etc, he is becoming a 911 guy too and we made some sweet parts for the bikes too over the years. Think I will maybe keep the roll cage where it is as no one will be riding in the back anyway. Paint needs attention at some point but figured to sort the mechanicals and upgrades out first. Few rust spots and small bubbles where the kit meets the rear quarters. Would like some sort of HID headlight upgrade and a heated front screen Want to lose the racing cut off levers which are mounted just in front of windshield though from what Ive seen on here maybe keep the extinguisher system! At least until the long term storage gremlins have been addressed. Remote central locking also needed. Suspension is the main issue as its so so stiff, I recall it you parked it 2 nearside wheels on the curb, the offside front wheel would just hang in the breeze curb height from the pavement! Its no good for the UK roads either, lots of clattering noises (told this will be rose joints on anti roll bars and possible solution switch to Turbo bars?) On country roads and bends its jumping and skipping across the bumps far too much. Its got green struts one end and yellow ones other which I'm told would indicate Bilsten? The torsion tube covers in the wheel arches are a lot longer than stock which again I'm told indicates modifications for previous engine/box. Front wheels need spacing out another inch to fill arches but got the spacers for that already. No power steering, brake servo or AC but all that could be addressed in the future. Would just want to get the now fitted 3.0SC engine in good working order and use that for a while before deciding on where to go with that department. When I used the car ten years ago it was a lot cheaper to upgrade than it appears to be now and wish I had taken the 930 turbo upgrades I was offered then! The SC pulled nice and strong then and was reliable but had the usual few oil spots I will post pics of course but Im currently in Vegas and not back where the car is until mid February and like I said initially the purists here wont like the body kit from some of the posts Ive seen. Guess the 1st thing is carefully bring it back to life and get the UK DMV inspection done then take it from there. Dont really care how long it all takes as Im keeping the car long term. Maybe list all the problems and intended upgrades one by one and deal with them with your appreciated help and advice! |
Welcome from northern England.
