Adjusting Decklid Alignment
 

Since my car has a tail (86 cab) I added the second hood shock to the decklid to hold it up like in 101 Projects. Doing so it appears to have gotten the alignment of the decklid all off. There is a larger gap on the side with the support shocks and almost no gap ( I am worried it is going to rub actually) on the opposite side. I know I can loosen the allen bolts that hold the lid onto the hinge parts, but is there an easy way to adjust this?

Do the hinge or support piece that the decklid bolts onto have any room for adjustment where they are attatched to the car? Any help on this would be appreciated.

i've been putting off mine for so long that it now has become difficult to shut:( - theres a huge gap under the rear window.

i would use the allen head bolts to adjust. slacken them only enough so that you can just move the deck by hand. shut the deck and then line it up. open carefully so as not to disturb the settings and tighten bolts.

always works for me. ;)

you can also help adjust back to correct height by slipping washers between the allen head bolts and the bracket -- or the bracket and the deck lid.

If you are so inclined get fresh hinges. This kills the slop developed over the years.

This is pretty common on worn-hinge front hoods. My new hood shocks caused a lift that I fixed by grabbing some low-mileage Carrera hinges.

Hi:
I'd go a different route ( typical for me...I guess !).

I'd use a Turbo lid right side hinge, it has a provision welded on to use a right side shock. I was surprised to see ( feel) a companion bracket under the sound mat at the firewall of my 85 Carrera...so this should be do-able.
Benefit? You have equalized the load and not put two honkin shocks on one side of the tail...no wonder things start getting cock-eyed.

I have had the same issue, but have not been able to locate a used turbo right hinge... any ideas?

Well...
1.) any dismantlers should have this
2.) buy "new" from Porsche dealer..can't be too expensive
3.) look at the left hinge, and fab yourself a right-side equivalent.
