Widest tires possible?
What are the widest/largest 16" tires that could fit under stock, narrow body fenders of a 1969 911T?
I currently have 205/50R16 and the car is lowered ~1/2". |
Be interesting to see pics of your car Erik.

Widest tires possible?
I put 205/55-16 tires on 16x6 Fuchs and had a nasty rub with stock t-bars. I went to turbo t bars and a more performance oriented alignment and still needed to roll a bit of the fenders. Depending on your tires you may need to do the same.

Next size is a 225 x50. On my car, it rubbed the fender on one side at the top about 2" up from the lip. Destroyed paint there. If you try 225's, drive car slowly around block. Check for rubbing. Drive a bit further and check again. Etc. You can also glue a piece of sponge or something similar under the fender to help identify contact.
Short answer is you will need to try it. And I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that 205 is as wide as you can go without different (bigger) offset wheels. |
205/60/15's for winter tires and 205/50/16's for track days. That's about it without getting hinkey with fender rolling, spacers and custom wheels.

Making the assumption that '69 flares are essentially the same as '76 flares (I think that is a reasonable assumption?), I ran 225/50-15s front and rear on 7x15 Cookie Cutters. Ancient picture (circa 1994 or 1995):

Thanks everyone. That confirms my suspicion about tire sizes and I'll stick with 205/50R16.
