find someone with a large table style belt sander and resurface them. go slow because the mag dust can ignite.

Similiar idea but DIY and a bit easier to control...find a flat surface, a mirror is pretty good if you don't have a surface table handy, using thin double side tape stick a big sheet of 80 grit abrasive paper (sometimes called production paper) to it. Now using a figure eight action sand the gasket surface flat.

The 80 grit is quick and leaves a surface which grips the gasket stopping it extruding when clamped.

Ensure the cam carrier mating surface is perfectly clean and free of surface imperfections, make sure the base diameter of the fixing studs are clean of any old gasket goo.

Its key to tighten the covers down using a middle out sequence and to the correct torque, don't use any gasket goo.

Also check previous ham fisted tightening has not split the stud holes that go through the covers all the sanding in the world won't fix that leak path.

Two gaskets is pure bodge up.

Pelican sells the thick, soft, reusable silicone valve cover gaskets. They work well for me.

The fact that you can't actually tighten the nuts when using the rubber gaskets kills it for me. I return them to the customer in a zip lock bag. I like the freezer bags.
as far as sanding them flat by hand goes, it does work, but it takes a LOT of time if they're warped much. even on a belt sander, it takes some time.

Check for straightness and flatness. Use a machinist surface table. You can use a magic marker or machinist blue to find the "high points". I think over time these covers warp with the heating and cooling of the motor.

+++ on the silicone gaskets. they have worked well for me. Take your time in tightening them properly.

I know they are controversial, but I have had a good experience with them.
