For those people who are very 'aware' of their health and well-being, I am wondering if you ever noticed that your scalp tends to be "sore" when you frequently have the top down cruising 7 days a week at 75+ MPH?
I mean, it is logical that the wind would exert enough 'pulling' force off your hair that it would apply pressure against the folicle! Maybe ultimately resulting to baldness? HAR HAR HAR ![]() ![]() Any thoughts? Or is everybody bald like I am? |

I can't say that I rememebr my scalp hurting after driving with my roof off but I usually wear a hat when I drive sans roof.
I often wonder about my hearing as I noticed that the hearing out of my left ear (next to an open window) is less than out of my right ear. Oh well osidak 78 sc Targa |

Scalp soreness is a result of the hair follicle muscles being sore from use, lactic acid build-up. They usually don't get much excercise, we can't run that fast.
Baldness is caused by Break Dancing and hopefully if your driving a Porsche you're not break dancing anymore. Stay away from skateboards too, they're hard on your shifting appendages. The hearing however is a very real problem, it helps to roll up the window at speeds exceeding 70 mph., especially since the significant other is usually hollering in the left ear. |

Hearing definitely is a problem. I ride a crotch-rocket and, for safety, I took the MSF course.
We were educated that hearing is a major issue with motorcycle driving/riding. Would be believe hearing loss is NOT due to the loud exhaust, but rather.......from the wind!!! |

Ahh, so that is why my hearing is fine in my right ear and something less in my left ear!!! Years of big bore bikes with headers and no baffels, and always having the top down on my Triumph TR4, Firebird, Miata, or Porsche are to blame. Let me tell you, the experience has been worth the price.

Actually, I drive my Targa every day with the top off, and I have noticed the bald spot on the back of my head growing new hair. It seems when I am driving at mach 1, the wind massages my scalp in that area and wouldn't you know it, new hair is coming in.
Just a comment. Steve |

What! What did you say! I can't hear you! Are you still there! Hello! Hello! Can you talk to my right ear? HAR HAR HAR
Seriously, the wind-induced hearing loss is a fact. Even with the helmet on, we were told to wear ear-plugs. Instructor was very sad to admit such problem after years of 'riding with the wind.' In California, ear-plugs are illegal. However, the discussion was kinda 'discussed' as a must! Probably more reason to get a Coupe! Hold off Coupe-aficionados.....I was just using reverse-psychology! |
