Yokohama Tires?

Considering a set of Yokohama AVS ES100. Anyone out there running around on these or other AVS-family tires?

Kristian,
I am running AVS Intermediateson my SC. I have had them for a year now, and I love them. They are inexpensive, wear relatively well, and are pretty sticky on dray for a street tire. I did have problems on wet pavement at highway speeds, but only on standing water. I suspect that would have beena problem on any tire. I will buy another set if (when) this set wears out.

AVS Sports, very sticky, noisy on concrete highways.

In very heavy rain, I had to slow down because of visibility problems before there was any sign of planing trouble in deep standing water.

The AVS Intermediate is still on closeout at Tire Rack for dirt cheap. I got a set before they ran out. They still have some sizes left... but don't wait much longer.

I switched to AVS Sports a couple of years ago. Very sticky pretty much everywhere and surprising levels of grip in rain and even snow. I was pleasantly surprised. For track work, they're the stickiest street tires out there. They work well for DEs in rain or shine.

the "atvs" (old flame topic i paid for) intermediates get my vote. maybe not the "best", but IMO the best bang for your buck $$$

Hi,

My car had the Yokohamas on it when I bought it and when it was time to replace them planned on buying them again, but a friend of mine in the tire business recommended another tire, actually a touring tire (112 mph). Most of my driving is below this so...no worries.

The brand is 'Kumho'. Not a bad looking tire and a whole lot of fun to say the name...always raises an eyebrow or two.

FYI, Kumho now makes an "Ultra" street tire called the MX. I put a set on my other car about 500 miles ago and it's a serious tire. I've run AVS Sports, S-02s and S-03s before and the MX is in the same league.

The good old AVS Sport is one of the best feeling (firmness, feedback, etc) tires around, but the tread pattern and compound are getting pretty old.

I've heard the ES100 is more of a poseur tire for the masses, as opposed to a hardcore performance tire. Probably Yoko is trying to appeal to larger audience with a better "all around" type tire, like Bridgestone did with the S-03 vs the S-02.

I use Yoks on my cars.

I've used A008P's on my 911 for about 15 years.

I replaced the Michelins on my BMW with AVS dB tires about 2 years ago. Excellent tires with good grip on curves. Hard to make them break loose and when they do, they are predictable. The dB tire is advertised for its quietness. Recently, there have been complaints about tire feathering on the outside and road noise if they are not rotated every 3000 miles. I have not noticed this but am replacing them any way since I'm down to about 3/32nds.

In fact, the set just came in yesterday. Different tire pattern that is starting to show up on other tires now.

I recently bought a set of AVS Intermediates The Tire Rack has on close out. I think they are a pretty good tire. My previous set was AVS Sports, and once they got worn a little they were really noisy, especially on concrete pavement, which was mention earlier. But they had very good grip.

I have a pair of AVS dBs 205/55ZR16 with less than 5000 miles on them for sale cheap if any is interested PM me and I'll send a digital pic.

I recently installed the AVS ES100's on my NARP 944. Good choice. I've been a Bridgestone fan, but these are available in 15" sizes, which the 944 still uses. I've autocrossed and tracked them, and am very happy with them.
