Targa hoop color

I have an '88 Targa and I'm curious whether the basket handle, which is black now, was originally black or was painted over aluminum. Can anyone point me to further info about the original color(s)? Many thanks.

The original hoop on a 1988 was Satin Black to included the Targa badge. The proper paint most use is by Wurth, but many use Rustoleum rattle can from a big box like Lowe's. 7777 is the Rustoleum paint code if I recall. I would also suggest reading about stain clear coats in some of the motorcycle forums, to increase the longevity.

Thanks Michael! The paint has come off in a couple places, but nothing too terrible. That's great to know.

FYI the part is stainless underneath, not aluminum. I've heard they clean up really nice...

They do clean up nicely. For mid year cars with chrome it is a nice accent

My 86 Targa hoop was looking bad I used Plasti-dip. Turned out very nice.
