Your fan shroud may not be recessed onto the case pin thingie. Have you had it out recently?

Don't start a new thread if on the same topic as a prior one.

Warren,

Look very closely all around the fan housing to see if it is cracked.

Have you had the fan or housing out lately?

If so, loosen fan belt then loosen the fan housing strap and see if you can get the housing to sit without it touching the pulley. You may have to wiggle the housing up and back to see if it can sit higher.

Then retighten strap and fan belt.

Cheers

Bill

+1

There is a slot in the shroud casting and a pin in the case on the bottom. The two must engage.

Guys, In both photos there is a crack or split in the hole on the pulley. What would cause that?

That could cause a wobbling.

That is curious. Maybe someone tried to hold the fan without using the proper fan pulley tool? Still that would take quite a bit of force.

I'm inclined to believe the fan housing is cracked or the alternator is toast.

Remove the fan belt and see if the fan spins freely and without a wobble. And speaking of fan belts, that one seems odd to me anyway. The belt for my '83 is smooth and doesn't have teeth. I wonder if that is the right belt? Worth checking. If someone used the wrong one that may have contributed to the failure.

Also check the metal strap that hold the fan housing to the engine case. There should be no play in it whatsoever.
