901 gearbox repair

I have overhauled my 901 gearbox and now aligns the shift forks. When i select the first or reverse gear, the slider of the 2nd/3rd gear is blocked, but the slider for the 4th/5th can be moved. If I do I lock the gears. Is this correct? I have double checked the detente stack.

I am not clear as to what is happening with your selector. Are you saying you basically only have 1, R, 4, 5? How did you adjust your shift rods? Did you use the alignment jig? If not, you will need it. Also, you mention checking the detente package. What are you comparing it to in order to make sure it is correct? Did you pull the gear part off and reassemble? If you assembled incorrectly then you will be unable to select the gear that is not correctly assembled.

The only thing that will lock the shift rod into place, though, is a misaligned shift rod or detente package. The detente package would also effect other gears, though.

Any more info?

This is all correct, as you have described it.

Moving the shift rod for 1st/Reverse pushes a detent into the rod for 2nd/3rd, preventing it from moving.
This prevents a scenario where the selector is in-between two rods, can pull both into gear and lock the transmission.

Is that what he meant? I was not sure if he was describing correct action or an issue. Confused...

Sorry for the confusion, English isn't my first language.

Werkstatt, thanks for your answer this what I want to check before I put everything together.

Today I have finished my gearbox overhaul. Next weekend I will put it back in my car and I am very curious how it will shift.
