Hello, all,
Flew to Daytona last Thursday to pick up my car. Mixed feelings and impressions - the exterior is beautiful, the interior needs a lot of TLC. A little bit of re-assembly, an oil change and a set of tires and I got on the road Saturday morning at 5. 1200 miles later I'm back home with lots of questions and a growing list of to-do's. Good news is that it's already got a pop-off valve and Carrera tensioners, leading me to hope that the PO (or some PO) knew a bit about the car and may have done some good things. On the other hand the vacuum advance (or is that retard) on the distributor was disabled (hose cut and plugged). Looks like the advance plate froze up so he set the static timing for more advance and gave up. A friend and I fixed that in North Carolina, which made the car easier to start from a stop and brought the operating temp down frmo ~230 to ~180. Still running pretty rough and starting very hard. During much of Sunday's driving I could hear one cylinder coming on and dropping out again in little surges. This morning I drove to work (I promised I'd bring it in for show-and-tell) and after taking forever to get started and warmed up, she was singing on all six again - what a beautiful song! I'll abe putting together my big to-do list and figuring out what to do first. I'm sure you'll all get tired of hearing all my questions before too long. I'll see if I can get a picture posted later today when the sun comes up. ------------------ Dave '77 911S inari77s@911fanatic.com Rochester, NY |
