Ok, everyone, I need some help with this. I have purchased (from PelicanParts of course) a new thermal valve for the external thermostat on my '80 SC along with the special wrench used to remove the 36 mm fittings. The $64,000 question is: what is the best way to hold the thermostat in place while pushing, pulling, beating, cursing, etc. on the wrench trying to remove the fittings? I KNOW some of you have been there and done that already and I would like to benefit from your experiences.
Thanks, Fred Cook '80 911SC "Just because you are getting older, doesn't mean you have to grow up!" |

I simply use a piece of 1 x 4 about 4” square & wedge it behind the thermostat. I’ve done this 4 or 5 times & it always works well for me. I also use a very long breaker bar & apply steady, gradually increasing pressure. Never bounce on the breaker bar! Unless you have a VERY high quality adjustable wrench get the another open end wrench for the other part of the fitting.
