Purpose of AL plate in front bumper?
What is the purpose of this plate, right side front bumper by the oil cooler. Is it to protect the cooler or route air to it? Just seeing if I can get rid of it. Thx.

My assumption has always been to protect the oil cooler, but it may also be for US DOT because that part number is only listed in the US/CDN PET catalog, not the RoW.
Mine is in a box somewhere.

It is just there to protect the cooler from being crushed from an impact.

I wondered the same thing when I took my car apart for painting. It is no longer there. The brain trust said it was there to protect the oil cooler in the even of low speed impact.
