What a week!!!
Wow what a week full of emotional highs and lows. I lost my job on Monday, lost my toe on Tuesday, and on Friday my wife gave birth to our beautiful baby daughter, Delaney Jacqueline. As much as I love my Porsche, I have a real feeling for where it *really* ranks in the grand scheme of life. Hope that's not too sappy :) Actually, I am emotionally spent and could use a nice drive about now.
Anyone hiring a Unix/Oracle geek :) Hope ya'll had a nice weekend. |
Wow Brad, that sucks, I mean that’s great.
Job thing really sucks. Maybe one of the guys could really hook you up. Congrats on the new baby girl, that’s great. Don’t have any myself yet but my best friend just had his first, a girl, and it’s really neat to watch them with her. Priorities, I love my toys but my car would go in a heartbeat if loved one’s well being depended on it. We can always get a new one when the time is right. I sure hope it never gets to that point for you though. Besides, you’ve got a big drive coming up in a month. Not too sappy at all. Take care! |
Congradulations on the new bub's!
Just take it easy as you may be a bit emotionally strung out with all the drama. F' the job, there are much more important things going on right now :) |
Enjoy the time off with your daughter. It will probably be a highlight of you life.
The p-car is a close 2nd ;) . |
Lotsa luck on the job front - I got laid off from HP 9/20 and haven't had so much as a whisper of a lead.

Brad,
Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! I have a daughter who just turned seven. Enjoy every second because they grow fast. As far as the job goes I'm sure there is a better one right around the corner. Care to enlighten us as to what happen to your toe? |
condolences, condolences, and CONGRATULATIONS.
That's some of the worst/worst/best news I've heard. Enjoy the time with your family :) |
Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. Mine is 2 1/2 now and it is a blast. Sucks about your toe and your job (in that order). Let me know if I can do something.
Hang in there! |
Thanks everyone! What a great bunch of folks!
For those not familiar with my toe incident, a piece of a desk fell on it a few weeks back. It never healed, bones were crushed, muscle and nerves were toast. Oh well, just a little toe, but it sure didn't hurt *little*. The tech job market is REALLY tight right now. The market is saturated with folks like myself and Thom. Hopefully things will turn soon, but I doubt it. I am trying to think of a different field to go into, but it's hard to leave the comfort zone. Take care all! |
Brad,
Losing a job is stressful, especially in this market, however you now have little Delaney Jacqueline to enjoy which kinda puts things back into proper perspective. She will be the silver lining in your darkest cloud. I don't know if you already had kids and/or a daughter(s) but I have to say that my daughter is very special to me in a way that's different than my son. Its hard to put into words other than by the age of 2 she figured me out and had me wrapped around her finger. Have you considered branching out of your current skill set and trying your hand at software development? I think the demand for J2EE/web services is pretty good (relative to other tech jobs). Please do not take this as a job offer since I'm not in that position. The beauty of tech is that It's something you can bone up on at home while playing with Delaney and always a good investment for the future. The economy will come back someday. Best of luck to you. |
