Yet another Fuchs finishing thread
Folks,
I decided to join the crowd taking on Fuch refinishing as a DYI project. This morning I stripped the anodized finish. Wayne mentioned in '101 Projects' that he'd heard about (but not tried) lye . There's lot of discussion on the web about Easy-Off oven cleaner (which is lye). So, I gave it a try. And it seems to work. Sprayed it on, let it sit 20-30 minutes, wiped it off. Still some anodizing and most of the black paint. Did it again and let it sit around 45 minutes. Wiped it off. Most of the black paint is gone and the rest of wheel is dull, aluminum. I'll verify this evening by polishing. So, the question remains - buff the spokes or just use silver satin paint? The wheels are quite pitted and have a few nasty gashes, so I'm leaning towards just paint. Thoughts? Anyone have pix of silver & black paint Fuchs? Greg |
Hi Greg,
The only paint that should be on a Fuchs is on the center. NO PAINT ON THE LIPS. Looks like one of these cheesy quickie paint jobs. The centers are free to your imagination, but leave the lips natural aluminum. Of course this is only my opinion.:D GeorgeK |
