another "special edition" porsche question
OK you porsche Guru's, please give me some help on this. My 76 911s targa is supposed to be some special "signature" edition, at least thats what the previous owner said but then he wanted to sell it! The only thing so called special I can see is it has the normal factory steering wheel but with natural colored leather and a funky Ferry Porsche autograph on the horn rim. The interior trim is a bit unusual from most cars I have seen, my door panels and rear side panels are a houndstooth check material and the carpet is a very thick pile, other than this nothing out of the ordinary. The car is champagne metalic with cookie cutter wheels painted to match and tan interior. I know everything is original , the thing that got me wondering is I saw an add on traderonline.com for a 1976 signature edition 911, (in Springfield, Ohio) the guy claims there were only 300 made and they are very rare and I was qwondering if he is talking about the same thing. Now I am not naive enough to think I have some rare special model, just the usual money pit, but would like to seperate the Bulls--t from the facts. Sorry I don't have the means to post any pictures, any info from you guys is really appreciated. I was going to call Porsche but after reading the posts about the cert. of authenticity figure thats a waste of time-----WillyW

I haven't heard of any special edition for 1976, but in 1975 Porsche had the Silver Anniversary edition - those have a plaque on the dash saying "25 Jahre Fahren in seinter schonsten Form." The options sticker should say M426.
