is there a misprint in Porsche engine rebuilding book
Hi Guys
Just a quick question to anyone who has used Waynes Engine rebuilding book . is the description below pic 7-13 correct ? on CIS shouldnt you turn the camshaft to the overlap value ? then adjust the crankshaft to the z1? . or am i just reading it wrong? Thanks i did a search on misprint in engine building book for this forum but didnt get any hits. |
CIS does not matter
if it is cam timing you are trying to do: set the crank to Z1 and se the cam (left side) so that both valves would be closed. i dont remember if the dot is up or down. set your dial gauge up on the valve. rotate the crank 360 degrees to TDC Z1. this is valve overlap. remove the pin adjust the CAM for the dersired lift on the dial. remember the dial will rotate CCW so read the numbers in a CCW direction. rotate the crank 720 and check again and again. do the right side. then check both sides again. i suppose you could do it the way you stated but then if you have to turn the crank CCW that could put slack in the chains and your adjustment would be off. as it is, you will probably have to make several adjustments to both sides. the important thing here is to get the sides the SAME. if you can only get one side to the edge of the spec, set the other side the same. |
thanks for the info . i think i get what your saying , just need to read a little more.
